At La Vierge, our wines are shaped by the distinctive terroir of the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, where soil, climate, and landscape unite to create extraordinary conditions for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Our vineyards thrive in clay-rich Bokkeveld shale. The clay retains precious moisture and cools the roots, while the underlying shale, enriched with calcium, magnesium, and potassium, encourages deep root growth and steady access to vital nutrients. This natural partnership ensures slow, even ripening, producing grapes with remarkable balance, acidity, and depth of flavour.

Cradled within a natural amphitheatre, our estate enjoys a rare 360-degree exposure to surrounding weather systems. Morning fog from the Atlantic, warm midday sunshine, and cooling coastal breezes weave together across the vineyards, creating distinct microclimates within each block. This dynamic interplay shapes wines of nuance, individuality, and layered complexity.

The synergy of moisture-retentive clay, mineral-rich shale, and the moderating coastal climate allows our vines to flourish with precision and harmony. The heart of our conviction is simple yet deliberate. Trust the Site. 20 years ago, Peter Clarke founded the farm up in the cool heights of the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge. Here, in a natural and beautiful amphitheatre, he chose the purity of planting dryland vineyards on virgin soils. Each block is exposed to unique aspects of soil and climate, rewarding us with layered and complex fruit that provides the foundation for our wines that are unveiled in our cellar to reveal their full expression of terroir and vintage.

Our Original Sin Sauvignon Blanc has always been a firm favourite, capturing the beautiful characteristics of our terroir perfectly. With a selection of 3 Pinot Noirs, which includes our flagship La Vierge Noir, each unique in style, will leave you captivated by this varietal. The pinnacle of our range, Apogee Chardonnay and Pinot Noir showcasing the best our vineyards have to offer, if you are lucky enough to obtain such a masterpiece.
