Jakob’s Vineyard

Where

The farm is situated in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, 350 metres above sea level and not more 5km from the Walker Bay coast (as the crow flies). The soils are shale clay Klapmuts and red granite Oakleaf.

The vines are planted on a beautiful piece of land, surrounded by renosterveld fynbos and exudes a "sense of place".

Who

Intrigued by the unique confluence of art and science in the making and appreciation of fine wine, André de Lange, an attorney by profession, dreamt of making his own wine from an early age. In 2001, while still living in Cape Town, he, and his scientist wife Yvonne, were introduced to this small piece of land. It was love at first sight and Jakob's Vineyards was born.

The name "Jakob's Vineyards" signifies an attachment to the land, associates the Hemel-en-Aarde area with the biblical Jacob's ladder and memorializes Andre's grandfather, Jakob.

Famed

Through the years, vintages of the Jakob's Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon has been awarded with a gold medal and trophy at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, was selected to be auctioned at the Nederburg Wine Auction, were rated in the Top 100 SA Wines, and awarded a double platinum award at the National Wine Challenge. Since 2010, the Jakob's Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon is made by consulting winemaker Peter-Allan Finlayson.

Offerings

With only one hectare under vine, Jakob's Vineyards specialises in producing terroir specific fine wine from its single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon block.
