As you make your ascent into the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, surrounded by sprawling vineyards, ocean winds and mountain views, you’ll come across Hasher Family Estate. Situated along the banks of the Onrus River and the De Bosdam, the vineyards are planted in unique clay soils with ancient, decomposed granite loam and quartzite inclusions. Hasher Family Estate farms some of the oldest vineyards and best kept secrets in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, first established in 1997.
Who
A long time ago, a young boy from Belgium had a dream. To one day settle in the seaside village that stole his heart. When fate intervened, Frederik Herten met Céline Haspeslagh, a girl from a proud lineage of European farmers and pioneers in organic produce. As the first-generation owners of Hasher Family Estate, they are laying a firm foundation for descendants to follow and fortify. On a piece of paradise, under the African sun.
Famed
Hasher Family Estate is upgrading and expanding their vineyards and will be releasing their maiden vintages in 2022. Their exceptional terroir promises exquisite wines, created by a dedicated team with a passion for cultivating a style that is deeply rooted in expressing a sense of place. Be on the lookout for their first vintages of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, ready for release in early 2022.
Offerings
While Hasher Family Estate is currently closed to the public, the team is working hard to build an authentic wine farm experience that will delight the whole family and offer an escape from the bustle of life. Aside from a state-of-the-art tasting room, the Herten-Haspeslagh family will also develop the 180 hectares Hasher Family Estate with wildlife and nature conservation areas and holiday cottages on the banks of the De Bos dam.
