Where

Drive up the Hemel-en-Aarde Pass leaving the busy beaches far below and slowly, slowly this pristine wine valley will envelop you in stillness and wonder. Turn left towards the De Bos dam and around a bend, a low-slung building appears on the horizon, perched on a sweeping landscape and anchored under a large tree.

This is the Frame House: a beautifully crafted wooden structure that serves as the wine-tasting venue for Bosman Wines. Here, you can savour exceptional wines while taking in panoramic views and indulging in a carefully curated selection of small plates.

Who

Bosman Family Vineyards reflects the proud heritage of a farming community working together for many generations to a rhythm dictated by season, tradition and a respect for each other and the land on which they live and work together.

The Bosman family have been farming in the Bovlei of Wellington since 1810 but, in search of cool climate terroir, the family purchased a farm in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde in 2000, and the first vines were planted in 2006. The farm, a WWF Conservation Champion, spans 270 hectares with only 44ha under vine and 28ha under protea, the remaining land is actively conserved and consciously rehabilitated as part of our regenerative farming philosophy. These vineyards are about 10km from the Atlantic Ocean which results in a cool and temperate climate with southerly sea breezes during the summer, moderating the temperatures in the valley. The soils of this ward are mainly derived from granite which lend our wines a signature salinity.

Famed

Generation 8, our generation, has a deep respect for provenance, coupled with a passion for progress which together holds us accountable for producing excellence now. The reward is a host of accolades, here are just a few:

  • 2025/ Dineplan Reviewers’ Choice Award- Bosman Hermanus

  • 2024/ Ethical Company of the Year – Winner (Drinks Business Green Awards)

Offerings

DISCOVER BOSMAN IN THE HEMEL-EN-AARDE
Tucked away in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near the seaside town of Hermanus you’ll find a large and lovely farm complete with fields of fynbos, rolling vineyards and commercial protea plantations in the shadow of the towering Babylonstoren Mountain.

In this tranquil setting, silent solitude is broken only by the rustle of sunbirds in the proteas or a blue crane strutting her stuff through the undergrowth. It’s picturesque, made all the more so because of the focus on conservation and regeneration of the natural fauna and flora of the area.

TASTE
The Bosman Upper Hemel-en-Aarde range is a cool climate selection of wine varietals that thrive here on this elevated, sea-facing site. Savour Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grown on the slopes of the Babylonstoren Mountain and along the banks of the De Bos dam.

EAT
The best place to experience our wines is on the enclosed verandah of the Frame House, a wood and iron structure looking out onto the picture-perfect scenery where small plates, made from fresh, locally sourced produce, are paired with our wines.

SLEEP
For ultimate rejuvenation, stay over at the Fynbos Farmstay. Perched on a slope with a breathtaking view of the entire valley, this is the perfect place to just relax and unwind, simply grab a book, pour a glass of wine and enjoy good company.

WALK
A quick hike (2.7km round trip) along the Koppie Trail which offers a panoramic view of the whole of Walker Bay.

PICK
We sell bunches of freshly picked indigenous flowers called ‘plaasmeisiebossies’ because they are made up by a loyal team of women who live and work there.

Bosman Hermanus produces a wide variety of indigenous fynbos and regularly supplies arrangements for guest houses, showrooms and reception areas as well as large orders for functions and events.
