Ataraxia Wines
Where
Situated in the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge ward, our vines are nurtured in a distinctive terroir profoundly shaped by our close proximity to the icy Atlantic Ocean.
The Ataraxia Vineyards wine range is guided by a deliberate stylistic philosophy: to defer entirely to the individual sites from which each grape is sourced, allowing place to speak without interference.
Meticulous care has been taken to match rootstock selections precisely to each vineyard’s soil type, while leaving no stone unturned in sourcing the finest scion material available in the country.
Who
In 2004, The Skyfields Farm became the home of Ataraxia when husband-and-wife team Kevin and Hanli Grant, together with some friends, acquired this exceptional 47-hectare vineyard property. Kevin is a self-confessed terroiriste, believing that the true quality of a wine is determined long before it reaches the cellar—by the land itself.
As he often explains, “One cannot enter the Kentucky Derby on a donkey and expect to take home the prize money, even if you have the best jockey in the world on board.” For Kevin, the vineyard is the thoroughbred: without the right site, no amount of winemaking skill can compensate.
More than a two decades later, Ataraxia has become synonymous with wines of remarkable finesse, balance, and depth—wines that confidently hold their own on the international stage.
